“Hmmm, more cryptic grown-up talk… I heard some yelling…”

“Hmmm, I’m not surprised… I have to be honest with you kid. I didn’t just come here to cheer up your dad.”
“I got that impression from the yelling… and I could tell when you showed up you had a few things you wanted to say to Daddy… do you at least feel better, Aunt Rose?”

“Better? Hmmm… no… but I did get some answers, which is a refreshing change.”
“Really? Daddy gave you straight answers? Wow… that is a first.”
“Straight answers? No, no that is not his style… but I did get the answers…”

“And that is what happened to me… only it was Pastor Davis who said it for Mom because she didn’t care enough to say it herself.”

“The General is afraid of Pastor Davis?” *laughing* “Oh that’s perfect.”
“Don’t laugh at Daddy, I’m telling!”

“It’s past your bedtime, Joanna. Make sure you brush your teeth.”
“Neil, why would Mommy say I can’t be friends with Martin?”
*sigh* “She didn’t say that, Punk, just go get ready for bed…”
“But you said…”
“It was just an example so you would understand.”

“Tell me something, Tori… how do you know Pastor Davis?”
“Mom… when I was a little girl she asked him to come by the house and talk with me… I was having a tough time accepting my little brother… I hated him.”
“Did your father know he came by the house?”

“Of course… they would talk before he talked with me… of course that ended when Daddy moved out… why do you ask, Aunt Rose?”
“Oh… just… I’m guessing Jeffery didn’t mention we all knew each other back in college?”
“Mmmm… no, can’t say that he did… so you know Pastor Davis from college?”
“Yes… is that… did you make pork chops?”

“I don’t know what has gotten in to me, I’ve been eating like this for weeks now. These are very good… aren’t you having dinner?”
“Ya know, I’ve heard about people who eat like that… Mom said she did when she was pregnant with Martin… you don’t think you’re…”
“Gods no… Frank and I haven’t… I haven’t had…”
“Aunt Rose? Are you okay?”
“Tori… what’s today’s date?”

“Jeffery this isn’t going to work… you are not going to smooth talk your way out of answering me.”

“In a heartbeat… and this time, it won’t work. I’m serious… you knew how much I loved Claude. He was my world… what happened.”
*sigh* “He didn’t deserve you Rose… he couldn’t have made you happy.”
“It wasn’t for you to decide. We’re talking about my life here Jeffery… ‘my’ life… not yours… ‘mine’.”

“He left you for the ministry, Rose. His calling was more important than you or did you miss the collar?”
“He isn’t a priest… he’s a pastor… pastors can still marry…”
*laughing* “You… as a pastor’s wife? Oh that’s rich.”

“Hey… ya, I know… but… could you… just… will you listen?”

“Ka-… I…” *sigh* “Right… ya, I know… well, he said… did you ask him? … why not? … did he… what a crock! … no, not you… ya, I talked to her too…”

“You never gave me the chance to make that choice. He loved me Jeffery… he still loves me.”
“You’ve spoke to him… hmmm… that explains the sudden interest in the past. What has he said to you?”
“Oh no… after all the crap you’ve put us through, I’m not telling you anything.”

“Oh so it’s ‘us’ now is it… hmmm, you don’t want your answers? Okay…”
“There… there’s more?”
“Did I say that?”

“Gods, you truly are your father’s son aren’t you. There is no more… he went to the ministry… he told you… why, Gods knows… and you didn’t bother to tell me… that’s it isn’t it. You’re still playing your games, you’re still trying to control me!”
“Go home to your daughter, Rose… go back to your life where you are happy.”
“That’s just it, Jeffery… I wasn’t happy. I haven’t been happy since he left me… and you took that away from me by keeping his whereabouts to yourself. I would have gone to that ministry to find him… I would have been the pastor’s wife and I would have been happy… but thanks to you and your warped sense of duty… I’m bitter and alone.”
“Daddy… Aunt Rose… dinner is ready…”

“I know what Mother said, how about this… let’s just say that someone told you that you can no longer be friends with Martin?”
